Germany defeat Costa Rica at start of World Cup

Germany triumph in the starting match of the World Cup by defeating Costa Rica, 4 goals to 2. On the 9th of June, the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2006 began. Many former star footballers of different nations came along representing thier teams during the ceremony. At 1600 GMT, the kick off to the first match of the tournament was made. It was played between Germany and Costa Rica. Germany gained a 1-0 lead in the first 5 minutes when defender Philipp Lahm scored a fabulous goal from the edge of the box. Costa Rica were not late to react as they too, after a few minutes, scored and brought the whole German crowd to a sudden moment of silence. Before the end of the first half, Germany had made the score 2-1, after the birthday boy Kose, scored his first. During the second half, Kose scored his third and it seemed as if Germany had already gained thier 3 points. But Costa Rica scored thier second and the score became 3-2. During the last 20 minutes of the play, Torsten Frings made the score 4-2 after he scored an unbelievable goal from 30 yards outside the box. That goal could be one of the best of the whole tournament. The score remained the same till the end of the game.

International Friendly-England triumph over Jamaica with big score

In the International friendly played between England and Jamaica, the English had no problems winning the match after claiming 6 goals to thier side. Frank Lampard had a better game this time, as compared to that against Hungary, and got in the attack early on in the game to bring England in the lead. He had missed a penalty against Hungary and had a lot to catch up. Steven Gerrard had a quiter game in the game and failed to cover those areas where he had to guard from the Jamaican attackers. Peter Crouch had a wonderful game as he scored a hat-trick for himself, although one goal should have been regarded as an own-goal. Michael Owen performed more as an assistant forward as he only scored one goal, and made Lampard's and Crouch's goal possible. Captain David Beckham was amongst his best forms, provided accurate and deadly passes and crosses. No goals were conceaded by England even though the defense did not show its best form. England need a lot to work on thier penalty shoot-outs as Lampard missed one against Hungary and Crouch missed one against Jamaica. Currently, Eriksson's has selected Lampard, Beckham, Owen and Gerrard as his leading penalty takers. Jamaica was a comparatively easy opponent, but the World Cup will be much more competetive. Next stop, Germany.
